Knights Wrap Up Non-Conference Play With Draw Against Shawnee State

Indianapolis, Ind. - The Knights wrapped up non-conference play with a 1-1 draw against Shawnee State Wednesday Evening. The Knights move to 5-2-2 opening up conference play next Wednesday September 24th at home against Huntington. 

The Knights opened up the first half taking control early with five shots from Gustavo Nunes, Rodolfo Batisti, Joao Antonio Rocha, and Samuel Wehaus. Both teams then traded shots with Sebastian Gonzalez recording a shot high for Marian. Shawnee State took another chance, but came up short to Mateo Garcia-Galan's efforts in goal. Matthew Loo and Gonzalez followed up with a pair of shots, but came up short to the Bears defense. Six minutes after Gonzalez's shot Shawnee State took another chance taking a shot to be saved by Garcia-Galan, but it took advantage of the ball out of his hands to score a goal and take the 1-0 lead over the Knights. Ricardo Marquez took over Ingle to finish out the half with the bears, claiming the one goal advantage going into halftime.

Marian once again took charge opening the second half with seven unanswered shots from Rocha, Antonio Pratas, Wehaus, and three from Nunes. The Bears took their first shot of the half, but were quickly followed up by a goal from Kyohei Kuroda even in the game 1-1. The night's continued to push with Wehaus, Josh Wesseling, and Batisti all recording shots, but came up short, ending the game with a 1-1 draw.

Kyohei Kuroda led the team with the sole goal while Gustavo Nunez recorded the most shots with four and two on target. Samuel Wehaus was not far behind recording three while Joao Antonio Rocha, Rodolfo Batisti, and Sebastian Gonzalez each recorded two. Kuroda, Josh Wesseling, Antonio Pratas, and Matthew also each recorded one shot.

In goal Mateo Garcia-Galan claimed the start giving up one goal and saving a pair of shots. Ricardo Marquez claimed his first win of the season coming in late in the first half and recording one save on the day.

Marian opens up Crossroad League play on Wednesday September 24th as they take on Huntington at 7 PM at home.
