Marian Ends Weekend With a Draw at Goshen

Goshen, Ind. - The Marian men's soccer team came to a draw with Goshen College Saturday afternoon. The Knights move to 6-2-3 overall on the season and 1-0-1 in the Crossroads League.

The Knights opened up the first half with three shots from Joao Antonio Rocha, Iarosalv Korablev, and Gustavo Nunes with Rocha's shot being saved by the Maple Leafs goalie and Korablev and Nunes' goals blocked. Goshen followed up with a pair of shots but both off target. Josh Wesseling and Sebastian Gonzalez took their chances but both recorded shots high, ending the first half with a 0-0 tie. 

Each team recorded a shot on target out of halftime but both were saved with Donovan Doolittle recording the shot for the Knights. Goshen followed up with a streak of shots but none were successful with Marian's defense and Ricardo Marquez's efforts in goal. The Knights got their chances again with Kyohei Kuroda recording a shot that was saved. Nunes followed up scoring the first goal across the box from the right side with the assist from Doolittle to take the 1-0 lead. Each team took another shot with Gerald Ramirez recording a shot high for the Knights. Goshen continued to push with a header off a corner kick to tie the game 1-1 in the 61st minute. The Knights continued to take shots at claiming the lead with Rodolfo Batisti, Krevens Saint Paul, Rafael Zambrano, Wesseling, Kuroda all recording one shot and Nunes and Zambrano recording a pair of shots. Each team came up short ending the game with a 1-1 tie. 

Gustavo Nunes led the team recording the singular goal, he also led the team in shots with four and two on target. Rafael Zambrano was close behind with three shots and one on target while Josh Wesseling and Kyohei Kuroda each recorded two. Iaroslav Korablev, Gerald Ramirez, Sebastian Gonzalez, Matthew Loo, Donovan Doolittle, Joao Antonio Rocha, Rodolfo Batisti, and Krevens Saint Paul each recorded one shot. In goal Ricardo Marquez gained the start and recorded the tie allowing one goal and claimed two saves. Mateo Garcia-Galan came in for the last four minutes of the match as relief.

Marian will be back in action on Wednesday, October 1st as they travel up to Mount Vernon to take on the Cougars at 5 PM.
