INDIANAPOLIS - The Marian women's lacrosse team won its third consecutive game on Wednesday afternoon, rolling past Bethel 17-3 at Ascension St. Vincent Field. Marian's win is the second at home this season, and improves the team to 5-3 overall and 3-1 against WHAC foes.
The Knights got off to a rapid start on Wednesday, scoring three unanswered goals to open the game.
Ella Grace Giedd scored the first of the three goals, while
Ruby Mason and
Rylie Boezeman followed with back-to-back goals to cap the 3-0 start. Bethel broke up the run of goals, but Marian quickly answered with a
Taleah Nool score with 3:12 to play in the first quarter.
Esbeydi Montes scored with 2:31 to play in the opening quarter to give Marian a 5-1 lead by the period's end.
Marian followed their strong first quarter with a dominant second quarter, as the defense and
Aniyah Jones pitched a shutout in the quarter.
Sydney Hartman scored the first of four goals in the period with 6:42 remaining in the half, while
Delaney Koles notched a goal after receiving a pass from Nool to make the game a 7-1 contest.
Ruby Mason would go on to score twice in the final 100 seconds of the half, giving the Knights a commanding 9-1 lead at the break.
The volatile offense continued in the third quarter, as
Ruby Mason and
Taleah Nool scored consecutive goals to instigate the running clock. Bethel would slow the game with a goal with 7:55 remaining in the third quarter, but a response from
Alex Dean and
Allyson Cissell kept the game accelerated.
Ella Grace Giedd would score in the waning minute of the third, putting Marian in control 14-2.
Marian would end the game scoring the final three goals of the contest, with Montes and Geidd each scoring one in the final frenzy.
Claudine Umumporeze scored as the clock expired, capping Marian's runaway 17-3 victory.
Ruby Mason finished the game as the team's leading scorer with four goals, doing so on six shot attempts.
Ella Grace Giedd scored three goals and led the team with three assists, while
Esbeydi Montes and
Taleah Nool each finished with two goals.
Olivia Dean caused five turnovers in the win and recovered six ground balls, and
Ruby Mason led the way with four draw controls.
Marian rolled through three goalkeepers in the win, with
Aniyah Jones recording the win playing only the first half.
Marissa Bardo and
Addison Marsh each allowed one goal, playing one quarter each in the second half.
Marian continues their home-match stretch on Friday afternoon, playing Madonna at 12:00 p.m.
