Means' Walk-off Advances Knights in CLT

Story Links

Fort Wayne, Ind. - The Marian softball team advances in the winners' bracket of the Crossroads League Tournament with their 2-1 walk-off win against Huntington in extra innings on Wednesday afternoon. After the win, the Knights move to 32-14 overall on the season.

Marian opened up the game, striking early in the first inning with Mati Hughes singling through the left side to score Abby Madere, putting Marian in the lead 1-0. The Foresters were quick to counter with an RBI single in the top of the second to tie the game 1-1.

The Knights pushed back with back-to-back singles from Ally Malone and Mystic Means, but came up short with a pair of outs to end the second inning. After three straight outs for each side, Malone got on base with a walk in the bottom of the fourth but came up short after a strikeout in the next at-bat. Each side stayed scoreless, ending regulation with a 1-1 tie.

The Knights' defense was on fire once more, holding Huntington scoreless at the top of the eighth inning. Malone struck once again with a triple into right-center to get into scoring position for the Knights. After the Foresters put in their second pitcher of the game, Means was able to fire off a single down the left field line, scoring Malone and taking the 2-1 walk-off win.

Ally Malone led the way, going 2-3 from the plate, while Delaney Rundle and Mystic Means also had a multi-hit day, both going 2-4 from the plate. Mati Hughes and Means both tallied the RBIs for the game, each recording two. Macy Coan pitched the entire game, only giving up four hits and striking out seven batters.

Marian will be back in action later this evening as they take on (RV) Saint Francis (Ind.) with first pitch set for 5 PM.
