SOUTHFIELD - In the first road matchup of the year, the Marian men's soccer team fell 3-5 against Lawrence Tech on Saturday afternoon.
Samuel Wehaus led the way for Marian with one goal and one assist. After the loss, Marian moves to 1-1 in the early season.
Marian opened up the game with a pair of wide shots from
Samuel Wehaus and
Gustavo Nunes before both teams traded a pair of headers. Lawrence Tech was able to strike less than five minutes later with the first goal of the game. The Blue Devils continued to control the game with another goal off a penalty kick to increase their lead to two with a little under 10 minutes remaining in the half.
Josh Wesseling was able to bring the score within one with a goal at the 44th minute with an assist from Wehaus to bring the score 2-1 in favor of the home team going into halftime.
Lawrence Tech opened the second half with a pair of goals in the first 15 minutes.
Matthew Loo followed up with a shot on target, but it was saved by the goalie.
Alexis Lopez fired off a goal following Loo's attempt to knock down the Blue Devils' lead 4-2. Lopez continued to fire off shots, with one being blocked and one being saved by the goalie. The home team fired off another goal to extend their lead once more. Wehaus fired off another header before knocking in the final goal of the game with the assist of
Leonard Assouan to bring the score to 5-3, falling to Lawrence Tech.
Samuel Wehaus led the Knights, recording three shots, one goal, and one assist. Off the bench,
Alexis Lopez led Marian with three shots, as well as two on target and one goal. In the goal,
Ricardo Marquez took the loss, playing the full 90 minutes.
Marian finishes off their two-game road trip on Wednesday as they travel to Owensboro, Ky. to take on Brescia University, with kickoff set for 5 PM.
