INDIANAPOLIS - The Marian women's soccer team faced a tough defensive battle against No. 2 Cumberlands on Tuesday evening. The top-5 matchup was full of suspense, ending in a 0-0 draw.
Marian opened up the match with a pair of shots from
Sienna Mullen and
Olivia Parmer, with Parmer's on target and saved by the Patriots' goalie. The Cumberlands was quick to push back, taking a shot that the Knights' defensive line was able to block. Marian continued to attempt strikes, firing off a trio of shots before Cumberlands fired off their second. The remainder of the half was very corner kick heavy, with the Knights recording five and the Patriots recording one.Â
After a prolonged halftime due to a campus-wide power outage, the game got going again with Marian opening up the second half with five shots before The Cumberlands was able to record one in the 73rd minute of play. The Patriots took charge, controlling the ball for the next 10 minutes of play, recording three more shots. Marian made their final strides after the Cumberlands did not deliver, recording two more corner kicks and a pair of shots, but came up just shy, ending the match with a 0-0 draw.Â
Olivia Parmer led the way in the match, recording four shots with two on target, while
Sienna Mullen was close behind with three.
Sophia Dawson recorded a pair of shots with both on target, while
Laney Harshany,
Jordan Love,
Allie Tredway,
Liz Fischer, and
Ava Sivadat each recorded one.
Lily Ames spent all 90 minutes in goal, recording a pair of saves in the outing.Â
Marian will be back in action on Saturday, September 5th as they travel to Saint Xavier to take on the Cougars starting at 4 PM CT.Â
