Chicago, Ill. - The Marian women's soccer team's dominant first half led the Knights to a 5-1 win over Saint Xavier on the road. Five different Knights got on the board, with three earning a goal and an assist.
Marian opened up the match in a frenzy, recording a pair of shots as well as a goal in the opening minute of play.
Sophia Dawson was first to get on the board for Marian with an assist from
Olivia Parmer. Quickly after,
Allie Tredway extended the lead with an assist from Dawson in the third minute of play. Each team fired off shots, but Marian was able to maintain control, recording five shots compared to two from Saint Xavier. Parmer continued to put the Knights ahead with a goal in the 16th minute of play. Marian continued to fire off shots, with
Sammie King taking one a tad to the right before
Kaitlyn Lavezzi took advantage of a penalty and reached the back of the net to extend the lead to four. Less than two minutes later,
Erin Kelly recorded her first goal of the season to extend the lead to five. Marian fired off five more shots, with three on target, but came up short, ending the half with the 5-0 lead.
Out of halftime, Saint Xavier struck, getting on the board five minutes after half and decreasing the lead to four. For the rest of the half, Marian controlled the rest of the match, firing off 10 more shots while Saint Xavier took no other shots in the match. In the 10 shots, six were on target, and all were saved by the Cougars' goalie.Â
Erin Kelly and
Sophia Dawson led the Knights with a pair of shots, both on target, one goal, and one assist.
Allie Tredway recorded four shots while
Olivia Parmer recorded three. Off the bench,
Sophia Lewis recorded a pair of shots, both on target.
Lily Ames earned the start, taking the win and recording one save in the first half.
Cassidy Nowlan came in as relief playing the entire second half.Â
Marian moves to 4-0-1 overall this season after the win. The Knights continue their Illinois weekend, taking on Olivet Nazarene on Monday, September 7th at 6 PM CT.Â
