INDIANAPOLIS — Saturday's final day of Collegiate Track Nationals was delayed by rain throughout the morning and early afternoon, pushing all racing to a 6 p.m. start at Major Taylor Velodrome. The final day featured the men's kilo time trial, women's 4km individual pursuit, men's and women's scratch races, and the co-ed team sprint.
Meredith and Lawson Set New Track Records
Fred Meredith started the evening with a win in the men's kilo time trial, stopping the clock at 1:05.932. His time broke the Major Taylor Velodrome track record of 1:06.641, set by Olympian Bobby Lea in 2003.
James Halverson finished second in 1:06.910, while
Jackson Clary and
Jonah Hover also finished in the top five.
Javon Ramroop placed eighth,
Jordan Callum ninth,
Shaurya Sheoran 12th, and Joshua Trerise 14th.
Mairen Lawson followed with another Marian victory in the women's 4km individual pursuit. Her time of 5:03.139 broke the Major Taylor Velodrome track record of 5:08.493, set by Marian Cycling alumna
Stephanie Lawrence at last year's Track Nationals.
Anna Zyromski earned her first individual collegiate nationals podium with a fifth-place finish in 5:28.445, also setting a personal best.
Hannah Paine finished sixth,
Claire Kudlata seventh,
Daniela Carphio 10th, and
Fiorella Ramirez 15th.
Close Racing in the Scratch Races
The men's scratch race was a nail-biter from start to finish. Over 36 laps, no breakaway was able to stick until Colorado Mesa University put two riders ahead with three laps remaining. A small gap opened as the bunch hesitated, but
Fred Meredith gave it his all to chase them down solo in the final lap. One Colorado Mesa rider pulled off, allowing Oliver Welcker to sprint for the win. Meredith came close to riding around Welcker at the line but finished second. David Kosela also earned a top-five finish in fifth, while
Jackson Clary placed ninth and
Shaurya Sheoran 19th.
The women's scratch race was interrupted with 10 laps remaining after a crash involving Marian's
Anna Zyromski and two other riders. Thankfully, all three riders were okay. Racing resumed once the track was cleared and safe, with three neutral laps followed by 10 laps of racing.
Mairen Lawson finished second, while
Claire Kudlata placed seventh and
Hannah Paine 12th.
Marian Takes the Co-Ed Team Sprint
The final event of the championships was the co-ed team sprint. Marian's team of
Fred Meredith,
Jackson Clary, David Kosela,
Jordan Callum,
Claire Kudlata, and
Breanna Winter finished first with a time of 2:09.611. The team finished just under a second ahead of Colorado Mesa University to take the gold medal and close out the final night of racing.
Final Team and Individual Omnium Results
Marian finished second in the overall team omnium, just two points behind Colorado Mesa University.
Fred Meredith won the men's individual omnium, while
Mairen Lawson finished second in the women's individual omnium.
With four days of racing completed on their home track, Marian Cycling finished the 2026 USA Cycling Collegiate Track National Championships with a strong showing across the sprint, endurance, and team events.
After the final podium celebrations, a fireworks show lit up the sky over Major Taylor Velodrome, bringing Collegiate Track Nationals to a close with a bang!
