INDIANAPOLIS, IND. - The Marian men's soccer team dominated the Goshen Maple Leafs 8-1 in their first home CL matchup of the 2026 season.
Samuel Wehaus led the way with a pair of goals and an assist in the match. After the win, the Knights move to 9-2 overall this season and 2-0 in the Crossroads League.
Marian got off to a slower start in the opening 15 minutes, only recording four shots and allowing Goshen to take one.
Josh Wesseling was able to fire off the first goal of the evening with an assist from
Samuel Wehaus to take the lead in the 17th minute of play. The Maple Leafs were able to push back with a lucky goal in the 24th minute to tie the game up 1-1. Wehaus attempted to strike back less than a minute later but came up short against the Maple Leafs' defense in goal.
Leonard Assouan was able to follow up two minutes later with an assist from
Joao Antonio Rocha to take back the one-goal lead over Goshen a little over halfway through the first half. The Knights fired off four more shots, with two on target, before
Matthew Loo was able to reach the back of the net on his corner kick, extending the lead to 3-1 going into halftime.
Assouan opened up the second half with a shot that came just shy of the back of the net, against the goalkeeper's defense. Wehaus was able to follow up with back-to-back goals to extend the Knights' lead to four. The match stayed pretty back and forth for the next 15 minutes, with each side recording two shots before
Gustavo Nunes was able to record back-to-back goals as well. With less than a minute remaining,
Keiji Nakamae was able to reach the back of the net for the final goal of the match, taking the 8-1 win over Goshen.
Samuel Wehaus led the way, recording five shots with four on target, two goals, and one assist.
Matthew Loo and
Leonard Assouan both recorded three shots, all on target, and one goal. Off of the bench,
Gustavo Nunes led the way recording five shots with three on target and two goals.
Josh Wesseling and
Keiji Nakamae each recorded two shots with one on target and one goal.
Richard Faleye led the way in assists with two while Wesseling,
Lucas Lacerda, Assouan, Wehaus, and
Joao Antonio Rocha all recorded one. In goal,
Tristan Edwards took his eighth win of the year, tallying 73 minutes of action.
Talon Collier came in as relief playing the final 16 minutes.
Marian will be back in action on Wednesday as they host Mount Vernon Nazarene at 7 PM at Ascension St. Vincent Field.
