Maresh and Mullen Record Braces In Monday Evening Matchup

BOURBONNAIS, Ill. - The Marian women's soccer team continues its winning streak on the road with a 4-1 win Monday night over Olivet Nazarene. Sienna Mullen and Lauren Maresh each scored a brace in the contest.

Much like their other matchups, Marian opened up the evening full steam ahead, recording seven shots in the opening 13 minutes of play. The Tigers were able to gain control of the ball, firing it down their half of the field to record their first shot of the game, but came up short against the Knights' defensive line. Marian fired off one more shot that was saved before Sienna Mullen reached the back of the net to take the 1-0 lead in the 27th minute of play. After the goal, Olivet Nazarene took charge, attempting four shots, but all came up short. Lauren Maresh was able to quickly counter the Tigers' attempts with a goal in the 42nd minute to take the 2-0 lead going into the half.

The Knights continued to bring the power out of the half with five shots, three of which were on target but saved by the goalie. The Tigers countered with a shot that was saved by Lily Ames in goal. Marian then fired off a shot that was blocked, followed by another goal from Maresh to extend the lead to three. Less than a minute later, the Knights reached the back of the net yet again from Sienna Mullen to extend the lead to four. After about 10 minutes of back-and-forth action in the midfield, Olivet fired off their first goal of the evening, reducing Marian's lead to three with 12 minutes left in the match. Sophia Lewis fired off the final shot for the Knights but was saved by the Tigers' goalie. Olivet attempted to strike two more times but came up short against Ames' defense in goal, finishing the match with the 4-1 win for Marian.

Sienna Mullen led the way, recording three shots with two on target and in goal, as well as one assist in the evening. Sophia Dawson recorded four shots in the evening, while Allie Tredway recorded two. Laney Harshany recorded the second assist of the night as well. Off the bench, Lauren Maresh shined with five shots, four on target, and two goals in her appearance.

After the win, the Knights move to 5-0-1 overall this year and will be back in action on Tuesday, September 15th, taking on No. 23 Northwestern Ohio on the road for their final non-conference matchup of the regular season.
