Knights Blank Cougars in Crossroads League Quarterfinals

INDIANAPOLIS – The Marian women's tennis team notched their third straight win Tuesday afternoon, as the Knights blanked Mount Vernon Nazarene 7-0 in the Crossroads League Tournament Quarterfinals. The win gives Marian an 8-1 overall record, as they advance to the tournament semifinals for the 12th consecutive season.

The Knights made quick work through doubles play with Dana Savarino and Joelle Leihbacher defeating Emma Harville and Megan Vollrath 6-0 at the No. 3 spot. Emma Chrome and Josie Yarbrough came in behind them, downing Emily Allison and Audrey Cochran 6-3 at the No. 2 spot, while Katharina Bopst and Lisa Koerner were leading 5-2 over Hailey Clayborn and Hannah Fugate before Marian clinched the doubles point.

Savarino scored Marian's first point in singles, winning in straight sets with a 6-0, 6-0 win over Allison at the No. 4 spot. Tea Vrkic followed up with the win at the No. 6 spot, downing Vollrath 6-0, 6-0, while Leihbacher clinched the match moments later at the No. 5 spot with a 6-4, 6-0 win over Harville. Koerner continued Marian's wins with a 6-3, 6-1 victory over Cochran at the No. 3 spot, and soon after came Chrome picking up the win at the No. 2 spot over Fugate with the 6-0, 6-1 win. Bopst wrapped things up for the Knights at the No.1 spot, as she won 7-6 (7-4), 6-3.

Marian will now play Thursday as they host Bethel at 3 PM for the Crossroads League Semifinals.
