Marian Falls to Indiana Wesleyan in Crossroads League Championship

Marion, Ind. – The Marian women's tennis team were unable to overcome a strong Indiana Wesleyan team as they fell 4-0 Saturday in the Crossroads League Tournament Championship. Marian ends the fall season with a 9-2 overall record.

Indiana Wesleyan got two quick wins in doubles, earning wins at the No. 1 and 2 spots. Betija Dusele and Dana Savarino went down 6-0 at the No. 2 spot against Melanie Dveksler and Bre Barger. At No. 1, Katharina Bopst and Lisa Koerner picked up a couple games against Sofia Loren and France Antezana, but ultimately went down 6-2. Josie Yarbrough and Emma Chrome were down 5-1 to Emily Connolly and Maria Way at the No. 3 spot before the doubles point was clinched.

In singles, the Wildcats continued their dominant performance by picking up three wins to clinch the match. Ellie Snider earned the first win for Indiana Wesleyan 6-0, 6-1 at the No. 5 spot over Savarino, and at the No. 6 spot Joelle Leihbacher fell 6-3, 6-1 to Connolly. Sofia Loren Munoz clinched the championship for the Wildcats as she defeated Bopst at the No. 2 spot 6-0, 6-2.

On the courts that were unfinished, Dveksler was leading 7-5 at No. 3 singles over Chrome, while Dusele was trailing 6-2, 5-2 at the No. 1 spot.

Marian will finish their fall season next week at the ITA Regionals, which begin on Wednesday September 28 and will last through September 30 in Marion, Indiana.
