Knights Pick Up a Pair of Wins in Crossroads League Play

Mishawaka, Ind. – The Marian women's tennis team picked up a pair of Crossroads League wins Wednesday, after taking down Bethel 5-2 and Huntington 6-1. With the two wins, Marian moves to 4-0 in conference play.

The Knights clinched the doubles point in easy fashion, with Katharina Bopst and Lisa Koerner taking the first win with a quick 6-0 win over Kyla Heckaman and Elizaveta Mikhailova at the No. 1 spot. Josie Yarbrough and Emma Chrome clinched the doubles point for the Knight at the No. 3 spot with an easy 6-2 win over Layla Jojo and Moana Martins.

In singles, Lisa Koerner was the first to take the first singles point after a 6-2, 6-2 victory over Heckaman at the No. 3 spot, before moments later Dana Savarino at the No. 4 spot defeated Fatima Calderone 6-0, 6-4 to give the Knights the 3-0 lead. Bethel managed to get themselves a point after a win at the No. 1 spot, with Mikhailova defeating Dusele 6-4, 6-3. With the score at 3-1, Chrome clinched the match for Marian after winning at the No. 2 spot 6-2, 6-2 over Alexia Pena. At the No. 5 spot, Joelle Leihbacher dropped her match 6-3, 6-4 to Jojo, before Tea Vrkic gave the Knights one more point and the 5-2 victory after taking down Saige Rinkenberger 6-3, 6-4 at the No. 6 spot.

Marian 6-1 Huntington

Marian started off hot against their second opponent of the day, taking the first point of the match by winning in the doubles category. Yarbrough and Chrome took the first match at the No. 3 spot, downing Nina Golfier and Grace Meyer 6-4. Savarino and Dusele clinched the point for the Knights by defeating Morgan Fitzpatrick and Lena Kurzweil 6-4 at the No. 2 spot.

The Knights continued their tear in singles, with Bopst defeating Kurzweil 6-4, 6-2 at the No. 2 spot. Emma Chrome had no troubles at the No. 3 spot as she won 6-3, 6-3 against Courtney Rich, before Koerner won at the No. 4 spot, taking down Esther Bolon 7-5, 5-7, 1-0 (10-8). Savarino and Leihbacher rounded things up or the Knights at the No. 5 and 6 spots. Savarino took down Golfier 6-2, 6-0 while Leihbacher defated Meyer 6-4, 6-1.

Marian will be back in action September 13 at 9:30 AM and 4 PM as they host Goshen and Grace for their lone home match of the fall season.
