Marian's Field Events Headline Results at John Gartland Invite as Knights Hit 8 Standards

Terre Haute, Ind. - The Marian men's track and field team continued their season with a dominant showing from their field athletes on December 8, as the Knights competed at the annual Indiana State John Gartland Invite. Marian had eight NAIA qualifying marks in the event, and were highlighted by Christian Rios' pair of NAIA A standard marks.

Christian Rios stole the show for Marian's athletes at Indiana State, as he hit the NAIA A standard in both the shot put and weight throw to qualify for both of his events for the 2024 NAIA National Championships. Rios finished third in each event, scoring a mark of 16.61m in the shot put and a 19.56m distance in the weight throw. Jacob Netral also hit two NAIA standards, hitting the A mark in the shot put and the B mark in the weight throw. Netral finished fourth in each event, getting a distance of 16.35m in the shout put and 17.20m in the weight throw. The throwers efforts were also headlined by second-year Knight Kevaughn Dawn, who finished fifth and hit his first career NAIA standard with an A distance of 15.90m in the shot put.

The field event efforts were also highlighted by Brenden Endres, who finished second in the pole vault, hitting an NAIA A standard height at 4.81m. Endres' effort in the pole vault gave Marian five NAIA A standards in the meet. The Knights had two other standards in the meet, with Gunner Kovach's second place finish in the high jump sitting at a B standard, while Tristan Trevino's first place finish in the mile was fast enough to also hit an NAIA B standard.

In addition to the eight standards, Marian had a first place finish from Olivier Lifrange in the 400m, while Connor Maple scored second in the 200m.
