Men's 4x800m Relay Claims Individual National Championship Bumping the Knights to the Top-10 in Day 2

Asheville, N.C. - The Marian men's track and field team breaks into the top-10 after two days of competition. The Knights are currently in seventh place, tied with Rio Grande and Life with 14 points overall. Marian set a new school record in the race walk and won an individual national championship in the 4x800m relay on Thursday evening. 

Ben Moster opened up action today, finishing 22nd in the 3000m steeplechase, clocking a time of 9:35.98. After a prolonged weather delay, Ben Riehle, Rick Williams, and Mason Piatt started action back up in the 800m. Piatt finished in 19th with a time of 1:52.33 while Williams clocked a 1:52.09, finishing 16th. Riehle led the way, running a new PR of 1:50.18, finishing seventh and qualifying for finals tomorrow. Jeremiah Brown and Will Osafo continued the action on the track in the 100m prelims. Osafo finished in 13th with a time of 10.53, while Brown finished tied for ninth with a time of 10.49. 

Throughout the evening, Marian continued to compete with Tre Jones, and Eric Materna competed in their first event. Jones finished 14th overall in the 400m prelims with a time of 47.56, and Materna led the way, finishing in seventh with a time of 46.86, qualifying for finals tomorrow. Owen Myers competed in the final individual race of the night, setting a new PR and school record of 22:55.96 in the 5000m race walk, finishing ninth overall. The men's 4x800m relay competed in the finals section, coming in first as the team of Piatt, Riehle, Charles Leedke, and Tristan Trevino, clocking a 7:28.01, finishing as the National Champions. The Knights also claimed the 4x800m relay National Championship sweep of the year with their win. In the final event of the evening, the team of Eli Givens, Jones, Dexter Parker, and Materna clocked a time of 3:10.94 and finished in sixth, advancing to tomorrow's 4x400m finals race.

Jake Grangier opens up the final day of competition, competing in the pole vault at 9 AM tomorrow. On the track, the men's 4x100m relay opens up action, competing in the finals race at 3:05 pm.
