Louisville, Ky. – The Marian women's tennis team kicked off their spring season by traveling to Bellarmine University on Saturday morning. The Knights were unable to overcome a strong Bellarmine team as they fell 7-0.
Bellarmine got quick wins in the doubles, earning wins at all three spots to take the first point. At the No. 2 spot, Emma Chrome and Isadora Muller dropped 6-0 to Lailaa Bashir and Cydney Rogers, before Betija Dusele and Katharina Bopst lost 6-2 at the No. 1 spot to Vendula Kryslova and Ekaterina Tikhonko. Bellarmine's Hanley Riner and Liann Grosso defeated Josie Yarbrough and Mara Schad at the No. 3 spot 6-2.
In singles action, Bashir got the first win for the Bellarmine against Dusele at No. 1, 6-0, 6-4. Finishing next for Marian was Bopst at the No. 2 spot as she lost 6-0, 7-6 to Tikhonko, while Chrome fell 6-1, 6-4 to Kryslova in No. 3 singles. Muller played at the No. 4 spot, falling 6-1, 6-0 to Rogers, and Yarbrough fell 6-0, 6-2 to Grosso at No. 5. Rounding out the lineup was Joelle Leihbacher who put up a hard fought match at the No. 6 spot, but would fall 6-4, 6-3 to Riner.
Marian will be back in Indianapolis for their next match on February 17 when they play at IUPUI. The match is set to go at 11 a.m. against the Jaguars.
