INDIANAPOLIS – The Marian women's tennis team played their second match of the spring season Friday morning, falling to IUPUI 6-1. Sophomore
Joelle Leihbacher recorded the sole point for the Knights.
IUPUI took the early lead, winning the doubles point. Emma Chrome and Josie Yarbrough lost at No. 3 doubles to Marta Krakowski and Sarah Lounsbury, 6-4, while Betija Dusele and Katharina Bopst fell 7-6 (7-3) to Meghan Bernard and Samantha Hayward at No. 1 doubles. At the No. 2 spot, Isadora Muller and Dana Savarino were trailing 6-5 when their match went unfinished.
After dropping the doubles point, Marian fell in five of the six singles matches. Dusele fell 6-0, 6-3 to Bernard at the No. 1 spot, before Savarino lost 6-1, 6-3 to Lounsbury at No. 5 singles. At the No. 3 spot, Chrome dropped 6-2, 6-3 to Dell, while Muller lost 6-4, 6-1 to Grace Lampman at No. 4 singles. Bopst went to three sets at No. 2 singles but fell to Hayward 5-7, 6-1, 6-3. Joelle Leihbacher was the lone winner for Marian as she won in three sets at the No. 6 spot, 5-7, 6-4, 1-0 (10-4).
The Knights return to action on Sunday at 11:30 a.m. when they host Georgetown College at the Indianapolis HealthPlex.
