JASPER, Ind. – The Marian women's tennis team took down Oakland City on Saturday afternoon with a quick 4-0 decision. The win against the Mighty Oaks moves Marian's overall record to 15-6 on the season.
Marian quickly picked up the doubles point after Josie Yarbrough and Emma Chrome defeated Kataryna Kulynych and Marta Fernandez with a quick 6-0 sweep at No. 3 doubles before Dana Savarino and Tea Vrkic won 6-0 at the No. 2 spot against Liz Aristizabal and Carolina Segura. Betija Dusele and Katharina Bopst's were trailing Mariana Espinosa and Isabela Todorovic 3-2 before their match went unfinished.
Chrome kicked things off in singles action with her 6-0, 6-2 win over Todorovic at No. 3 singles. At the No. 2 spot, Bopst took down Kulynych 6-1, 6-2 at No. 2 singles, while Dusele won her match 6-3, 6-3 at the No. 1 spot to clinch the win for Marian. Savarino was leading Tiana Sparks 7-5, 3-4, while Joelle Leihbacher was leading 1-0 in her match over Espinosa, and Vrkic was trailing 2-1 to Juliana Puente.
The Knights will return to action March 26 when they host Campbellsville at 2 p.m.
