Box Score Huntington, Ind. - The Marian women's tennis team won their third Crossroads League match of the young season on Saturday afternoon, taking down Huntington 6-1. Marian begins their 2024 season 3-0 on the year. 

Marian won two of the three doubles points to claim an early 1-0 lead, getting wins at No. 1 and No. 3 doubles. Michelle Irigoyen and Ana Lopez Torres won by a count of 6-3 against Esther Bolon and Addison Mast, while Lilianne Alinquant and Paloma Carceres Villalba defeated Grace Meyer and Coby Sander. Yasmin Imamniyazova and Ana Barbosa Fernandez fell in their matchup at No. 2 doubles, losing to Isabella Herrera and Courtney Rich.

Singles went by way of Marian, with the Knights winning five of the six matches. Alinquant won at No. 4 doubles to score the second team point, defeating Rich by a 6-1, 6-4 score. Ana Lopez Torres filled in at No. 1 singles as Imamniyazova was unable to play the match, with the first-year Knight falling to Herrera by a 6-4, 6-3 score. Fernandez won at No. 3 singles in a 6-2, 7-5 match against Bolon, and Irigoyen clinched the match at No. 2 singles with her 6-2, 6-2 win over Mast. 

Leading 4-1, Marian wrapped the match with wins at No. 5 and 6 singles. Caceres Villalba won 6-2, 6-0 at No. 5 singles against Meyer, and Sara Corrio Alemany defeated Sofia Kurshinskair in a grueling three-set match, winning 4-6, 6-2, 1-0 (10-3). 

Marian's win puts them in sole possession of first place in the Crossroads League after the opening week of the season. Marian will return home to play Grace College on Monday, seeking their fourth win.
