Okatie, S.C. - The Marian men's golf team opened their spring season this week, competing at the Oldfield Classic, hosted by USC Beaufort at the Oldfield Club. Marian finished fourth overall in the field that featured schools from multiple collegiate levels.
The Knights scored an 878 total, just missing out on a runner-up finish as they placed four strokes out of second place. USC Beaufort won the tournament with an 859 score, as they carded round scores of 287, 282, and 290, finishing five strokes under par as a team. Arkansas Tech took second with their 874 score, and Shorter finished third with their 877. Marian carded a 295 in round one and 301 in round two, holding seventh place after day one, before charging back on Tuesday with a 282 to end the event. Marian edged out multiple NCAA DII teams in the event, such as UIndy and Catawba.
Individually,
Lane Zedrick led the Knights in the event as he finished three-under par for the tournament. Zedrick gained 11 spots on the final day and finished with a 213 score, carding round scores of 70, 75, and 68. Teammate
Weston Ogden mirrored Zedrick in the tournament, matching him with the same 70, 75, and 68 to finish with a 213 overall and tie for fourth place. Ogden also gained 11 spots in the final day of the event.Â
Luke Beetz finished third overall in the Knights lineup, finishing with a 225 and a 33rd place finish. Beetz scored a 77 and 76 in his first two rounds, while in his third he posted a 72.
Augie Mann finished 42nd overall with his 228 score, shooting a 79 and 75 on day one before ending with a 74 in round three.
Brandon Heffner finished 53rd overall, firing a 230 for the tournament. Heffner scored two rounds of 78 on Monday, and ended with a 74 on day two.Â
The Knights return to the course on March 10 and 11, competing at the Keiser Invitational.Â
