Men's Golf Earns First Spring Victory at IWU Invite

NOBLESVILLE, Ind. - The Marian men's golf team completed their best tournament of the spring season on Monday afternoon, battling strong wind gusts as they tied for first at the Indiana Wesleyan Invite, hosted at Sagamore Golf Club. The Knights' win is their first of the spring and second of the season, with the team being led individually by Weston Ogden's second collegiate victory.

With eight of the nine members of the Crossroads League on hand, the men's golf team strung together their best two rounds of the spring on Monday, opening the 36-hole shootout with a 309 score. Marian trailed Indiana Wesleyan by four at the turn, but made up ground on the second 18, carding a spring-best 297. The Wildcats fired back a 301 in the second round, leveling the scoring between both schools as each team finished with a 606 total.

Both the Knights and Wildcats tied for first, while Midway, Taylor, and Spring Arbor completed the top-five.

Individually, Weston Ogden earned his second collegiate victory as he scored a 147 total, winning by two strokes. Ogden shot a 78 in round one, and over the second 18 holes carded a 69, gaining 11 positions on the leaderboard to take the individual win. The junior from Brownsburg led Marian at each of the team's five tournaments this spring.

Lane Zedrick made the all-tournament team as he finished fifth, shooting a 76 and 75 to come out to a total of 151. Brandon Heffner tied for 10th with Nolan Potter and Peyton Butler, as each Knight shot a 155. Heffner and Potter both scored a 77 and 78 in their respective first and second rounds, while Butler scored an 81 before firing a closing 74. Potter and Butler both played in the tournament as individuals. Luke Beetz finished 19th overall with a 78+80=158, while Augie Mann finished 23rd, shooting an 84 in round one before clawing back with a 75 in the second round, totaling 159.

Marian will now turn their focus to the Crossroads League Championships, which will be held May 5 and 6 at the Fort Golf Resort in Indianapolis.
