Knights Dominate Crossroads League Championships With New Meet Record

Marion, Ind. - The Marian men's track and field team finish victorious in the Crossroads League Outdoor Championships on Friday afternoon.

Marian took first place with a record setting 294 points while Indiana Wesleyan finished in second with 119 points. Huntington and Mount Vernon rounded out the top three with a tie for third with 79 points.

The 4x100m relay kicked off the action on the track on the men's side with Marian's team finishing in second place. The team of Jeremiah Brown, Ricardo Mateo, Jonathon Phillips, and Will Osafo finished with a time of 40.31 to secure the NAIA A Standard. Nicholas Frank, Lucas Steward, and Mitchell Hayward continued the momentum in the 3000m Steeplechase. Hayward finished with a time of 10:53.95 while, Steward finished with a time of 9:56.98 to tab eigth place. Frank led the way for the Knights recording a fourth place finish with a time of 9:32.79.

Tristan Trevino, Charles Leedke, Owen Pittman, and Benjamin Riehle saw action in the 1500m with Riehle finishing in 10th with a time of 3:59.78. Pittman and Leedke finished back-to-back with Pittman finishing with a time of 3:54.87 and Leedke finishing with a time of 3:53.78 to earn sixth and seventh place. Trevino led the way for the Knights with a third place finish and a time of 3:51.25 to hit the NAIA B Standard. Caleb Carter recorded some more points for the Knights with his eighth place finish in the 110m Hurdles with a time of 15.60.

Tre Jones, Eli Givens, Raif Miller, and Eric Materna continued the action on the track in the 400m with Jones finishing in seventh with a time of 48.50. Givens finished in fifth with a time of 48.27 while Miller finished in third with a time of 47.65 recording an NAIA B Standard. Materna led the way with a first place finish with a time of 46.17 tabbing an NAIA A Standard. The Knights continued to dominate with Olivier Lifrange, Osafo, Mateo, and Brown all competing in the 100m dash finals. Lifrange finished in seventh with a time of 10.77 while Osafo finished in fifth with a time of 10.69. Mateo was able to take fourth place with a time of 10.66 while Brown led the way with a second place finish and a time of 10.62.

In the back end of the day Andrew McDade, Rick Williams, Mason Piatt, and Alex Mundt all competed in the 800m with Mundt finishing with a time of 2:05.11. Piatt finished in seventh with a time of 1:53.30 while Williams finished in fifth with a time of 1:52.33. McDade led the Knights finishing in fourth with a time of 1:52.29. Richard Dube, Greg Hueston, Emory McClellan, and Carter all competed in the 400m Hurdles with Carter finishing with a time of 57.32 and McClellan finishing with a time of 56.15. Hueston finished in ninth with a time of 55.72 and Dube led the way with a second place finish and a time of 53.69 to record an NAIA B Standard. 

Lifrange, Materna, and Givens all ran in the 200m with Givens finishing in seventh with a time of 21.69. Materna finished in fifth with a time of 21.22 and Lifrange finished in fourth with a time of 21.17. Wrapping up the individual track events Leedke, Clark Chustz, Ben Moster, and Adam Heitz all competed in the 5000m. Heitz finished with a time of 16:00.37 while Moster finished with a time of 15:41.18. Chustz finished in 10th with a time of 15:34.26 while Leedke finished in seventh with a time of 15:11.94. Ending the action on the track, the team of Dube, Jones, Amarion Sanders, and Miller earned the win in the 4x400m relay. The Knights finished with a time of 3:12.15 earning not only the NAIA A Standard but also breaking their previous record at the meet which was made last season.

Opening up action in the field, Brady Betustak, Markevious Keys, Sam Runholt, and Christian Rios all competed in the Hammer with Betustak finishing in sixth with a mark of 44.49m. Keys finished in third with a mark of 48.57m while Runholt finished in second with a mark of 50.15m. Rios led the way finishing in first with a mark of 61.95m to record the NAIA A Standard. In the sand pit, Van Lian, Jake Grangier, Armani Glass, and Jordan Pohl each competed in the triple jump. Pohl took home fifth place with a mark of 13.30m while Glass finished in fourth with a mark of 13.55m. Grangier finished in third with a mark of 13.56m and Lian led the way with a mark of 13.74m to finish in first. 

To finish off the field events, Felipe Mentz and Michael Runions competed in the Javelin with Mentz finishing in seventh with a mark of 45.07m and Runions finishing in 42.59m to claim 10th place. Mentz, Runions, and Peyton Doty all competed in the decathlon to finish off the meet with Mentz taking second place with 6319 points. Runions took sixth place with 5163 points and Doty finished in eighth with 4179 points.

The Knights will be back in action in split squad form on Friday May 9th as they travel to Indiana University to compete in the Billy Hays Invite and Indiana State to compete in the Sycamore Open.
