Champions Once More: Marian Cycling Captures 2025 USA Cycling Collegiate Championship

INDIANAPOLIS - The Marian cycling team completed a ride of a lifetime on Sunday morning, as the Knights on Bikes recorded the 54th Collegiate Omnium Championship in program history. The Knights wrapped up an elongated four-day championship, winning the USA Cycling Track National Championship for the third consecutive year.

Marian's championship ride began on Thursday morning, with the sprint tournament and team pursuit events capturing the first session of the week. In the sprint qualifying, the Knights had seven of their eight riders for both the men and women qualify for the tournament bracket, with the women being led by Stephanie Lawrence and the men by Joshua Trerise. For the women, Lawrence, Alex Hill, Mairen Lawson, Sierra Samhammer, Lucy Foss, and Anna Zyromski qualified into the 16-rider field from the original 30-plus group, while the men had Trerise, Jonah Hover, Cameron Wing, Fred Meredith, Jordan Callum, Ben Boroff, and Javon Ramroop qualify out of the 38-person field.

Marian's men's team pursuit consisted of Ben Boroff, Fred Meredith, David Kosela, and Wil Mathwin, and the team clocked a silver medal finish, as their time of 4:23.77 in the 4km race placed one second behind Milligan University. For the women's team pursuit, the Knights' group of Clare Kudlata, Nicole La Rue, Stephanie Lawrence, and Mairen Lawson dominated their 4km ride to a first-place finish, as the team scored a time of 4:55.99. The Knights' gold medal finish was five seconds faster than runner-up Colorado Mesa.

Of the Knights' 14 riders that made the round of 16 in the sprint tournament, only 10 total Marian athletes would move on as the field was cut to 12 for the evening session. Stephanie Lawrence was the lone female rider to keep her stay in the field alive as Mairen Lawson, Claire Kudlata, and Alex Hill were eliminated in the repechage races, while the men saw Jonah Hover, Joshua Trerise, and Fred Meredith survive as the field shrank to eight riders. Lawrence would gradually break down the field and go on to an undefeated sprint tournament championship, winning against Mia Deye of Colorado Mesa. Trerise would finish as the silver medalist for the men, with Meredith placing bronze.

Lawrence completed an unfathomable perfect record in her collegiate track career in the sprint championship, going five-for-five in championships in her career. The senior rider also set the Major Taylor Velodrome in qualifying for the event.

Mairen Lawson finished 10th in the sprint tournament, with Kudlata and Hill finishing 11th and 12th. Hover finished sixth for the men, just missing a spot on the podium by 0.044 seconds. Jordan Callum finished ninth, while Javon Ramroop and Ben Boroff finished 11th and 12th, respectively.

Friday advanced into the women's one-kilometer time trial and the men's individual pursuit events. Lawrence set another track record with her 1:11.817 time, breaking the MTV record by two seconds. Lawrence's championship would be her third of seven on the week. Lawson was the next top-Knight in the event with her eighth-place finish, while Anna Zyromski finished 12th and Kudlata finished 13th. Nicole La Rue and Sierra Samhammer would both finish in the top-20 in the 43-rider field.

The Knights men missed the podium in the individual pursuit, but had strong riders from David Kosela, Ben Boroff, and Fred Meredith, who finished sixth through eighth. Wil Mathwin finished 11th, Jonah Hover finished 16th, and Shaurya Sheoran finished 17th out of Marian's racers in the top 20.

The fourth session featured the points race, with Marian faring well on the men's side with three top-five finishes in total points scored. Kosela led the Knights with a third-place finish (35 pts, fifth finisher), while Meredith took fourth (30 points, third finisher) and Boroff finished fifth (12 points, 10th finisher). Mathwin finished 12th in the scoring order, rounding out the men's lineup. For the women, Lawrence captured her fourth title in the women's points race, scoring 34 total points as she was the top-finisher in the race. Nicole La Rue finished ninth in the scoring as the next Knight, while Kudlata took 12th and Lucy Foss took 18th.

With two days complete, Marian continued to dominate on the track on day three, getting a gold place ride from Stephanie Lawrence in the individual pursuit. Lawrence's fifth championship came with a track record time of 5:08.493, breaking her teammate Mairen Lawson's time set in early August by eight seconds. Lawson would be the runner-up behind Lawrence with a strong 5:10 time. Anna Zyromski finished 12th, Nicole La Rue finished 13th, Lucy Foss finished 15th, and Claire Kudlata finished 19th.

The men rode in the time trial on Saturday morning and saw a silver medal ride from Jonah Hover, who clocked a 1:07 time in his runner-up effort. Ben Boroff finished fifth, Fred Meredith finished sixth, and the trio of Joshua Trerise, Shaurya Sheoran, and Javon Ramroop finished eighth through tenth. David Kosela would finish in the top 20, while Cameron Wing finished just outside in 22nd.

The final three events of the week would be postponed until Sunday due to wet track conditions following rainfall on Saturday. Marian's spirits were not dampened after getting delayed an additional day, starting Sunday morning with a championship from Fred Meredith in the scratch race. Meredith needed 14:30 of race time to complete his win, putting the entire field a lap down. David Kosela finished third, while Ben Boroff finished 11th. For the women, Stephanie Lawrence won individual championship number six, riding to victory in the women's scratch race in a time of 11:36. Lawrence's sixth championship was paired with a fifth-place finish from Nicole La Rue. Claire Kudlata finished 10th in the scratch racewhile Anna Zyromski finished 24th.

Completing the Knights' championship was the co-ed team sprint, with Marian's group of Claire Kudlata, Stephanie Lawrence, Jonah Hover, Fred Meredith, Joshua Trerise, and David Kosela combined for a 2:10.874 time. Marian's race time defeated Colorado Mesa by over a half-second.

The final championship gave Stephanie Lawrence seven stars and stripes jerseys for the week, allowing her to become the first female in program history and in USA Cycling Track Collegiate Championship history to win seven individual/team championships in a single event. Lawrence was the overall female omnium winner, while Fred Meredith captured the men's individual omnium.

Marian's championship is the third consecutive on the track, and 54th overall. Marian will now set their sights on the mountain bike and cyclocross season.
