Valparaiso, Ind. - The Marian women's tennis team falls to D1 opponent Valparaiso 4-1 on Saturday Afternoon. After the match, the Knights move to 1-2 overall on the young season.
Michelle Irigoyen and
Jimena Rivera Flores fell at No. 2 doubles with a 6-1 loss against the Crusaders.
Yasmin Imamniyazova and
Ana Lopez Torres fought back with a 7-6, 7-3 win over Tanner and Popa at No. 1 doubles.
Liliane Alinquant and
Ana Barbosa Fernandez sealed the deal at No. 3 doubles with their 6-3 win.
With Marian in the lead 1-0 after doubles play, Valparaiso fought back with a pair of 6-1 wins at No. 1 singles against Imamniyazova. The Crusaders continued their push with a 6-4, 6-0 win at No. 5 singles over Alinquant. The home team extended its lead with a pair of wins at No. 2 and No. 4 singles, defeating Lopez Torres 6-1, 6-2 at No. 2 and Rivera Flores 6-4, 7-5 at No. 4. Irigoyen went unfinished at No. 3, while
Paloma Caceres Villalba also went unfinished at No. 6.
Marian will be back in action on Monday, February 16th, as they host Cumberland University at the Farmers Bank Fieldhouse in Lebanon, Ind., with doubles action starting at 8:30 AM.
