Marian Named Indoor CL Champions For Seventh Straight Year

Marion, Ind. - For the seventh consecutive year, the Marian men's Track and Field Team takes home the Indoor Crossroads League Title. The Knights finished with a 91-point margin over the Wildcats to continue their win streak.

Marian finished the meet with 236 points overall, while Indiana Wesleyan came in second with 145 points, and Taylor finished in third with 85 points. Spring Arbor finished close behind in fourth with 81 points, while Goshen rounded out the top five with 57 points. Huntington, Mount Vernon, Bethel, Grace, and Saint Francis rounded out the placements.

The Heptathlon kicked off action on day two, wrapping up their two-day event. For Marian, Peyton Doty finished in 11th with 3377 points, while Michael Runions finished in eighth with 4105 points. Gus Martinez led the way for the Knights, finishing in seventh with 4171 points. On the track, the mile kicked off action as Lucas Steward finished with a time of 4:30.31. Preston Markley led the way, finishing in ninth with a time of 4:22.64. In the 60m Hurdles finals section, Emory McClellan finished in eighth, recording one point and a time of 8.74m. Henry Dixon finished in fourth with a time of 8.58 while Micah Williams led the way, finishing third with a time of 8.34.

Continuing action on the track in the 400m, Tre Jones recorded three points with his sixth-place finish and a time of 49.93. Eli Givens finished in fourth with a time of 49.50 while Eric Materna led the way, recording an NAIA B Standard and a time of 48.62 to finish third overall in the race. In the 60m finals, Ricardo Mateo came in fifth with a time of 6.82m, recording four points for Marian. Will Osafo finished in second with a time of 6.74 and an NAIA B Standard, while Jeremiah Brown led the way, finishing in first with a time of 6.73 and an NAIA A Standard. In the 800m, Marian extended their lead with Ben Riehle finishing in seventh with a time of 1:55.07, recording two points. Charlie Leedke finished in third with a time of 1:52.72, recording an NAIA A Standard, while Tristan Trevino led the way with not only a first-place finish, NAIA A Standard, and a new meet record with his time of 1:52.15. 

In the 1000m, Everett Carlisle finished with a time of 2:39.56, and Rick Williams finished with a time of 2:35.77. Mason Piatt led the way with a time of 2:29.56, finishing fourth overall. Marian continued to lead the meet throughout the day with all three Knights scoring points in the 200m, with Michael Hunter finishing in sixth with a time of 22:53. Jonathan Phillips finished in fifth with a time of 22.49, and Jeremiah Brown led the way, finishing in first with a time of 21.97, clocking an NAIA B Standard. In the 3000m, two Knights competed with Sam Sienkowski finishing in 10th with a time of 8:59.05 and Ben Moster finishing in eighth with a time of 8:51.63. In the final race of the day, the Knights led the way, coming in first in the 4x400m relay, recording an NAIA B Standard. The team of Malik Ferdinand, Michael Hunter, AJ Kelly, and Dexter Parker clocked a time of 3:18.63.

In the field, the triple jump kicked off action with Eauri Hines finishing fourth with a mark of 12.71m. Cameron Parsley finished in third with a mark of 13.42m, while Marzeion Jones led the way, finishing in first with a mark of 14.22m. In the shot put, Traeh Young finished in sixth with a mark of 13.92m. Markevious Keys finished in fourth with a mark of 14.05m while Javian Jones led the way, finishing second with a mark of 16.11m and an NAIA B Standard. The High Jump closed out action in the field with Gunner Kovach finishing in fifth with a mark of 1.94m. Ayden Eckstein tied for third with a mark of 1.99m, while Victor Dailey led the way, finishing in first with a mark of 2.04m, hitting the NAIA B Standard. 

Marian will be back in action in two weekends as they travel to Gainesville, Florida, to compete in the NAIA National Championships in hopes of defending their title on Thursday, March 5th, through Saturday, March 7th.
