Georgetown, Ky. - The Marian women's tennis team won its second consecutive match on Sunday afternoon, pitching a shutout in a 7-0 win over Georgetown College. Marian's record improves to 7-5 overall this season.
The Knights began the day with a quick clinch in doubles, winning the first point of the day with a pair of wins from the No. 2 and No. 3 pairs. The pairings of No. 2 team
Michelle Irigoyen and
Jimena Rivera Flores and No. 3 team
Liliane Alinquant and
Ana Barbosa Fernandez each won by 6-0 scores, getting straight-set victories to take a 1-0 lead.
In singles, the Knights followed with quick wins, as five of the six matches each recorded at least one set victory of 6-0.
Paloma Caceres Villalba won at No. 4 for the first victory of the match with her 6-0, 6-1 win against Emma Jury, while
Ana Lopez Torres followed with a 6-0, 6-1 victory at No. 2 singles against Abyy Moss.
Yasmin Imamniyazova clinched the match with a 6-0, 6-1 victory at No. 1 singles, locking the Knights' win after scoring the fourth point.Â
Marian would go on to win the last three matches, as
Jimena Rivera Flores won 6-3, 6-3 at No. 3 singles, and
Emma Chrome won 6-0, 6-2 at No. 5 singles.
Maggie Bertram completed the win with her win over Maggie Blevins at No. 6, winning 6-0, 6-1, to close out the shutout 7-0 victory.Â
Marian will end a two-day trip in Kentucky on Monday afternoon, making the trip to Columbia to take on No. 2 Lindsey Wilson.Â
