Azusa, Calif. - On Friday, April 17, the Marian men's and women's track team listed six combined runners in the Bryan Clay Invitational, as the Knights competed in what is coined as the "Fastest Meet in the World." Marian's runners came home with new personal bests in nearly every event, along with the top times in the 1500m.
For the men,
Tristan Trevino headlined the efforts of the weekend, re-writing his own school records in the 800m and the 1500m. Trevino shaved two-tenths of a second off his lifetime best in the event with a 1:49.41, placing 50th in the 800m Invite. Trevino also ran the 1500m, stealing the show as the top-NAIA runner in the event. Trevino finished 41st out of 150 athletes in the 1500m Invite, clocking an NAIA-best 3:43.49. The top time in the NAIA this season was a PR of nearly three complete seconds, and automatically qualified the junior for the NAIA Championship in the event.
Charles Leedke moved up to second all-time at Marian in the 800m with his new lifetime best time of 1:50.39, as he finished 19th in the 800m Open A race.
Benjamin Riehle set a PR and the fifth-best 800m time in program history with his 1:51.61, and
Mason Piatt clocked a 1:52.91, coming within sixth-tenths of his lifetime best time. Riehle hit the NAIA B standard with his 800m time.
Riehle later ran a 3:55.14 time in the 1500m to set a personal best, and
Mason Piatt finished with a lifetime-best 3:56.93 time in the event.
Charles Leedke also clocked his best-ever time in the 1500m, hitting the NAIA A standard with his 3:47.66 time.Â
For the women,
Katie Woods headlined the efforts between the senior and
Summer Rempe, with both athletes hitting multiple lifetime bests. Woods clocked a 2:08.83 time in the 800m, reclaiming the school record in the event with her NAIA A standard mark. Woods then clocked the best time in the NAIA this season in the 1500m, scorching a 4:21.45 time. Woods' efforts in the 1500m broke her previous best time by five seconds.Â
Rempe finished 17th in her 800m group, moving to No. 4 all-time in the 800m standings at Marian with her 2:12.69 time. Rempe hit the B standard with her efforts. The sophomore also clocked a B standard time in the 1500m, moving to No. 2 all-time at Marian after dropping 14 seconds with her new PR of 4:32.14.Â
Marian will finish out the regular season this weekend, running at Louisville's Clark Woods Open.
