Marion, Ind. - After the first day of the Crossroads League Outdoor Championships, the Knights hold in the top two, trailing Indiana Wesleyan by two points.
After one day of competition, Indiana Wesleyan leads the way with 66.50 points, while Marian holds onto second with 64.50 points, and Mount Vernon rounds out the top three with 51 points. Taylor holds fourth place, and Spring Arbor caps off the top five teams. Goshen, Huntington, Saint Francis, Grace, and Bethel round out the remaining schools.
Clark Chustz opens the day on the track, finishing 10th in the 10000m with a time of 32:57.03. The Knights continued action with the 110m hurdles prelims, where
Caleb Carter came in 12th, and
Henry Dixon finished in fourth, qualifying for tomorrow's race with a time of 15.57. Continuing prelims action on the track,
Connor Maple,
Jonathon Phillips,
Will Osafo, and
Jeremiah Brown all competed in the 100m prelims. Maple finished in 13th place while Phillips finished in seventh, qualifying for finals tomorrow with his time of 10.77. Osafo came in fourth with a time of 10.73, and Brown led the way, coming in first with a time of 10.46.
In finals action, the 4x800m relay, consisting of
Sam Sienkowski,
Charles Leedke,
Tristan Trevino, and Ben Riehle, came in third with a time of 7:31.28, qualifying for outdoor nationals. Finishing off action on the track,
Michael Hunter,
Eric Materna, Osafo, and Brown all competed in the prelims of the 200m, with Hunter finishing in 13th. Materna finished in seventh with a time of 21.83, while Brown finished in third with a time of 21.55, both qualifying for finals tomorrow. Osafo led the way with a time of 21.53, coming in second overall.
In the field,
Gunner Kovach and
Ayden Eckstein opened up action in the high jump, with Kovach coming in third with a mark of 2.03m and Eckstein coming in second with the same mark. In the throws, Traeh Young,
Tobi Soneye, and
Javian Jones all scored points for the Knights in the shot put, with Young finishing in eighth with a mark of 13.73m. Soneye came in third with a mark of 15.76m, and Jones led the way, finishing in second with a mark of 16.00m.
Action continued in the field with the long jump, with
Emauri Hines coming in third with a mark of 6.67m.
Marko Brajovic finished in second with a mark of 6.93m, and
Tevares Frierson came in first with a mark of 7.02m. Marian wrapped up throwing action in the weight throw, with
Markevious Keys coming in 10th, while Sam Runholt came in ninth. Pole Vault finished off the action in the field with Brennan LaBelle finishing in 10th and
Brenden Endres finishing in eighth with a mark of 4.35m.
Jake Grangier led the way for the Knights, coming in fourth with a mark of 4.50m.
Peyton Doty and
Michael Runions kicked off their two-day competition in the Decathlon, with Doty currently in seventh with 2431 points and Runions in fourth with 2962 points. Doty recorded one top-five finish on day one, and Runions recorded four out of the five events.
Marian will kick off action tomorrow, finishing off the Crossroads League Championships with action beginning at 9 am in Marion, Ind.
