Knights Lead After Day One of CL Outdoor Championships

Marion, Ind. - After the first day of the Crossroads League Outdoor Championships, the Marian Women's Track & Field Team leads by an astounding 56 points. Delaney Teachnor highlighted the day, setting a new school record in the Pole Vault with her first-place finish.

The Knights lead the way with 101.50 points, while Indiana Welsyan holds onto second place with 45.50 points, and Taylor rounds out the top three with 31.50 points. Huntington holds steady in fourth while Bethel finishes off the top-five teams. Spring Arbor, Mount Vernon, Saint Francis (Ind.), and Grace round out the remaining scores after day one. 

Lainey Roth and Josie Feldman opened up action on the track in the 10000m. Feldman finished in eighth with a time of 39:23.37, recording one point for the Knights, while Roth finished in fifth with a time of 37:52.36, earning four points in the race. Claire Lange, Bella Dean, Nina Marinkovic, and Kaylana Jackson followed up, all competing in the 100m hurdles prelims and all qualifying for finals tomorrow. Lange finished in eighth with a 15.57 while Dean finished in sixth with a time of 15.08. Marinkovic broke into the top five, coming in fourth with her time of 14.81, and Jackson led the way, finishing in third with a time of 14.54.

The finals of the 4x800m relay were next on the track, where the team of Gracie Fields, Katie Woods, Summer Rempe, and Gracynn Hinkley came in first with a time of 9:01.70, automatically qualifying the relay for outdoor nationals. The next prelims event on the track was the 100m, where Armoney Clay, Katy Soriano, Jovana Milosevic, and Kyla Bradberry all qualified for the finals section tomorrow. Clay came in ninth with a time of 12.54 while Soriano finished in sixth with a time of 12.43. Milosevic broke into the top five, finishing fourth with a time of 12.37, and Bradberry led the way, finishing in first with a time of 12.13. Closing out the evening on the track, Soriano, Emma Edwards, Milosevic, and Bradberry all competed in the prelims of the 200m, all qualifying for the finals race tomorrow. Soriano finished in eighth with a time of 25.64, and Edwards finished in sixth with a time of 25.45. Milosevic came in fourth with a time of 25.23, and Bradberry led the way, finishing in third with a time of 25.08. 

In the field, the Knights opened up action in the pole vault with three athletes scoring in the event. Georgie Ashworth came in eighth with a mark of 3.28m, while Schwab came in fourth with a mark of 3.43m. Delaney Teachnor led the way, finishing in first with an NAIA A Standard and new PR and school record with a mark of 3.88m. Kalise Gutierrez, Holli Reuter, Hanna Reuter, and Marinkovic all scored in the long jump. With Gutierrez finishing in seventh with a mark of 5.35m and Holli Reuter finishing in sixth with a mark of 5.37m. Hanna Reuter broke into the top five, finishing in fourth with a mark of 5.53m, and Marinkovic led the way, finishing in third with a mark of 5.63m.

All four athletes scored in the discus, with Hadleigh Filipovich finishing sixth with a mark of 38.17m. Ozofu Magaji finished in fourth with a mark of 39.37m, while Tracey Gooch finished in third with a time of 39.45m. Gabi Bilbrey led the way, coming in second with a mark of 43.83m. Brooke Coffman continued action in the field, finishing first in the high jump with a mark of 1.67m, hitting the NAIA B Standard. Shot Put closed out the day in the field with Nhaydia Watson finishing in sixth with a mark of 11.79m. Bilbrey finished in fifth with a mark of 12.22, and Filpovich finished in third with a mark of 12.45m. Magaji led the way, coming in first with a mark of 13.80m, qualifying for outdoor nationals.

Bella Dean opened up her two-day-long competition in the Heptathlon as she holds onto fourth currently with 2534 points. Dean placed second in three of the four individual events Friday morning.

Marian will kick off action tomorrow, finishing off the Crossroads League Championships with action beginning at 9 am in Marion, Ind.
