Kovach's All-American Honor Leads Way Day One of Outdoor Nationals

Asheville, N.C. - The Marian men's track and field teams opened up the NAIA Outdoor National Championship today in Asheville, North Carolina. After the first day of action, the Knights hold onto 12th place while recording two new school records in the 4x100m and 4x800m relays.

Markevious Keys opened up action in the field, finishing 14th with a mark of 53.36m in the Hammer. Gunner Kovach, Victor Dailey, and Ayden Eckstein finished out in the field, all competing in the pole vault. Dailey finished 16th with a mark of 1.98m, while Kovach led the way, finishing fifth and earning All-American Honors with his mark of 2.03m. 

In the field, the 4x100m opened up action after the rain delay as the team of Will Osafo, Jeremiah Brown, Michael Hunter, and Jonathon Phillips finished first in prelims with a new school record of 39.79 and advanced to finals on Friday. Tristan Trevino and Charles Leedke continued the action on the track in the 1500m prelims, both advancing to finals on Friday. Trevino led the way, finishing third with a time of 3:53.44, and Leedke was close behind, finishing in fourth with a time of 3:53.52. Jeremiah Brown and Will Osafo continued the action on the track, both competing in the 200m prelims. Osafo came in 12th with his time of 21.19, while Brown led the way, finishing in seventh with a time of 21.10 and qualifying for the finals on Friday. The team of Sam Sienkowski, Rick Williams, Leedke, and Trevino finished off the day in the 4x800m prelims, finishing in first with a new school record and the top NAIA time this season, with a time of 7:27.90, qualifying for finals tomorrow. 

After a weather suspension tonight, Ben Moster will open up action tomorrow, competing in the prelims of the 3000m steeplechase at 1:15 PM.
