Marian Downs Goshen

INDIANAPOLIS – The Marian men's tennis team started off their Crossroads League doubleheader with a win in dominating fashion, defeating Goshen 6-1 Tuesday morning. The win over the Maple Leafs moves the Knights to 5-2 in Crossroads League Play.

Goshen was the first to strike as they were able to pick up the first win at doubles, with Kevin Bollmann and Mario Gomez defeating Shadi Al Tori and Jona Henze 6-4 at the No. 3 spot. After some hard-fought doubles action, the Knights were able to claim the doubles point behind the efforts of Mark Griffin and Andrew Ilett at the No. 1 spot, defeating Fillippo Gallo and Insee Akarapan 7-6, while Armando Lopez and Jacob Wittenbaum picked up the second win at the No. 2 spot, downing Matija Margetic and Pedro Scattolon 7-5.

In singles, Ilett picked up the first win for Marian after a quick 6-1, 6-0 win over Scattolon. It was a tough battle at the No. 1 spot, as Griffin was able to pick up the 6-3, 4-6, 1-0 (10-7) win over Margetic, before Henze would fall to Gallo 3-6, 6-1, 1-0 (10-8). At the No. 5 spot, Jones McNamar made quick work of his opponent, downing Gomez 6-1, 6-2 to clinch the win for the Knights. Rounding out the wins for Marian were Ashwin Bhat at the No. 6 spot, defeating Akarapan 6-1, 7-5, and Dmitrii Voshchenkove winning 6-3, 6-1 at the No. 4 spot.

The Knights will return to action later this afternoon as they will take on Grace at 4 PM at the Marian Tennis Courts.
