Mobile, Ala. - The Marian men's tennis team ends its season in Mobile, Ala., in the NAIA First Round of the National Tournament, falling to No. 12 Missouri Baptist. The Knights end their season with an overall record of 14-11 and 6-3 in the Crossroads League.
Missouri Baptist got off to an early lead in doubles, defeating
Mateo Guerin and Juan Garcia-Tunon 6-0 at court No. 3.
Marcos Ramos Cabrera and
Marc Soriano pushed back at the Spartans' lead at court No. 1 but ended up falling 6-3.
James Ashworth and
Iyan Cresens kept their competitors in check to maintain the 4-4 tie, but the match ended unfinished, allowing Missouri Baptist to take the doubles point.
Missouri Baptist continued to extend its lead with a pair of 6-1 wins over Cresens at No. 6, followed by a 6-0 and 6-3 win over Soriano at No. 1. Garcia-Tunon stopped the Spartans' run with a 6-3 and 6-0 win at No. 5, bringing the match score 3-1 in favor of Missouri Baptist. The Spartans dealt out the final blow with a 6-4 and 6-3 win over Ramos Cabrera to take the 4-1 win and advance in the tournament.
The Knights ended the season holding a 14-11 overall record as well as advancing to the NAIA National Tournament for the first time since 2019.
