Men's Tennis Punches First Ticket to NAIA Tournament Since 2019

KANSAS CITY, Mo. - The National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) has officially announced the 24-team field for the 74th Annual UTR Sports NAIA Men's Tennis National Championship. For the first time since 2019, the Marian men's tennis team will be in the NAIA Tournament Field, qualifying as an at-large team.

The event will be held at the Mobile Tennis Center in Mobile, Ala., from May 12-16, for the 22nd consecutive year (the 2020 event was canceled due to COVID-19).

The field consists of 12 automatic berths and 12 at-large selections. Automatic qualifications are granted to conference tournament champions, while at-large teams were determined by the NAIA Tennis National Selection Committee (NSC). The NSC consists of coaches and administrators from around the country.

Marian is 14-10 overall on the year and is earning an at-large bid to the field as a qualifier for the first time since 2019. The Knights' trip is their first as an at-large, having qualified as an automatic bid winner in each of the last three appearances. The Knights will be the No. 21 seed and are going to play against No. 12 Missouri Baptist in their first game of the tournament.

Georgia Gwinnett enters the championship as the No. 1 seed and will look for its 11th Red Banner.

Lindsey Wilson (Ky.) has the most tournament appearances in the field with 23. New College of Florida, Loyola (La.), Bethel (Kan.), and Saint Mary (Kan.) are each attending the tennis national championship for the first time in their program's history.

The Sun Conference has the most representation at the event with five teams.
