Butler Takes Down Marian in Spring Opener

INDIANAPOLIS – The Marian men's tennis team began their spring season with a match against Butler on Saturday afternoon, as they fell 7-0 in the match.

Butler took the doubles point after earning their first win at the No. 2 spot with Shadi Al Tori and Ashwin Bhat falling 6-0 to Nicolas Arts and Borja Miralles, before Rahulniket Konakanchi and Patrick Joss won 6-1 over Jacob Wittenbaum and Armando Lopez. At the No. 1 spot, Jared Thomas and Mark Griffin were deadlocked 3-3 over Thomas Brennan and Alvaro Huete Vadillo before being unfinished.

In singles action, Butler got their first point from Huete Vadillo over Griffin at the No. 1 spot 6-2, 6-2. Jona Henze fell 6-1, 6-4 at the No. 2 spot to Joss, while Dmitrii Voshchenkov dropped his two sets 6-4, 6-3 to Konakanchi at No. 3. At the No. 4 spot, Bhat put up a strong match with Aidan William, but ended up losing 6-4, 7-6 (5). Finishing next was Max Sternberg at the No. 6 spot as he fell 6-2, 6-1 to Zach Trimpe. Jones McNamar went to three sets in his match at the No. 5 spot after dropping the first set 7-6 (3) and winning the second set 7-5, but fell in the third set tie breaker to Michael Karr.

Marian will return to action on February 19 with a home contest against Georgetown at 11:30 a.m.
