INDIANAPOLIS - The Marian cycling team has announced their roster for the upcoming USA Cycling Collegiate Road National Championships, hosted on May 5-7 in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Head coach Jonathan Hoopingarner released the roster one week ahead of the event.
After previously competing for the final collegiate championship of the season in Augusta, Georgia, the national championship shifts west to New Mexico. Marian is seeking their first national championship since 2019, having placed as the runner-up in the 2022 championship. Last year's championship event was the first since Marian's 2019 title, as the COVID-19 pandemic canceled the 2020 and 2021 events.
Marian enters the weekend in second place in the season long omnium, trailing Colorado- Mesa. Marian is in contention to win the season-long omnium title, but will need help from the other teams in the event to upend Coloardo Mesa.
Throughout the spring Marian posted a great season competing in road racing, highlighted by freshman
Mairen Lawson winning the individual MWCCC Conference Championship. Freshman David Kosela finished conference standings in second place with teammate
Michael Hemmerlin ending the conference season in third place.
The Knights will begin riding on Friday, May 5 with team time trial racing. On Saturday the the road race will take place, with Sunday featuring the criterium race to close the championships.
