MADISON, Wis. - The Marian cycling team ended their 2025 collegiate racing season with a runner-up finish in Wisconsin at the USA Cycling Road Nationals, as the Knights on bikes improved their placement from the 2024 season.
The Knights weekend began with two runner-up finishes in the team time trial, as the men's group of David Kosela,
Luke Arens,
David Brower, and
Amir Danel finished second, while the women's group of
Mairen Lawson,
Stephanie Lawrence, Nicole Larue, and
Lizzy Gunsalus road to the silver placement.
Day two was the road race, and for the women, Gunsalus and Lawson made the break, finishing fifth and seventh, respectively, after a solo rider went up the road, while the rest of the team set
Stephanie Lawrence up to win the field sprint! On the men's side, Arens made the winning break after some hard work from his teammates and finished with a third place finish.
For the final day of racing, the crit race took center stage, with the Marian women finishing in the top-10 after a dicey field sprint. Lawrence finished seventh, Gunsalas finished eighth, and
Katy McDicken finished 10th. On the men's side,
Tom Scott and
Ben Boroff were able to sprint to fifth and sixth in the men's criterium after being set up by their teammates.
The team finished with an overall 2nd place after a close battle all weekend.
