Box Score Indianapolis, Ind.- The Marian men's tennis team fall 2-5 to The University of Indianapolis in their 2025 opener. The Knights bring their overall record to 7-4.
Tjark Kunkel and
Jan Bartolome got the Knights off to a good start with a win at No. 1 doubles with a final score of 6-3.
James Ashworth and
Jones McNamar were the next to finish falling at No. 1 doubles with a final score of 5-7. Juan Garcia-Tunon and
Marcos Ramos Cabrera fell in a tough fight at No. 3 doubles with a final score of 6-7 and 8-10 in the tiebreaker to allow the Greyhounds to record the doubles point.
UIndy extended their lead at No. 1 singles with a win over
Bogdan Precupescu with final counts of 1-6 and 2-6. Ashworth was the next to finish falling at No. 2 singles with final counts of 2-6 and 3-6. Garcia-Tunon put up a hard fight at No. 3 singles but fell with final count of 5-7 and 2-6. Kunkel was the next to finish at No. 4 singles falling 3-6 and 0-6. With the Greyhounds in a 5-0 lead the Knights wrapped up the match securing the last two points with Bartolome tabbing the 6-3 and 6-1 win at No. 5 singles. Ramos Cabrera was the final match to finish dominating with a 6-1 and 6-2 win.
The Knights are back in action in two weeks as they travel a short distance to take on Butler University on Friday, February 7th at 10:00 a.m.
