Box Score Hilton Head, S.C. - The Marian men's tennis team began its spring break trip with a 6-1 win over Spring Arbor. Following the win, Marian moves to 5-3 overall and 2-0 in the Crossroads League.
James Ashworth and
Mateo Guerin started the match with a 6-2 win for Marian at No. 1 doubles. The Cougars were able to push back with a 6-2 win at No. 2 doubles, leveling the field. But Marian was able to clinch the point with a 6-4 win for
Marc Soriano and
Iyan Cresens at No. 3 doubles.
Soriano extended Marian's lead with a pair of 6-2 wins at No. 3 singles. Spring Arbor was able to push back at the Knights' lead with a pair of 6-3 wins at No. 1 singles over Ashworth. With the match 2-1, Marcos Ramos Cabera was able to shut down the Cougars with a 6-2, 6-0 win at No. 4 singles.
With the 3-1 lead,
Bogdan Precupescu extended the lead once again with a pair of 6-2 wins at No. 5 singles. Next to finish in a long match up Guerin took the 4-6 (5), 6-7 (1), 6-2 win at No. 2 singles. Juan Garcia-Tunon wrapped up the match with a 4-6, 6-2, 1-0(6) win at No. 6 singles.
The Knights will be back in action tomorrow, March 3rd, continuing Crossroads League play as they take on Mount Vernon Nazarene in Hilton Head, S.C., with doubles action starting at 9 AM.
